Summer Camp Volunteers Position Descriptions

Lawn Mowers:
• Job Description: The camp has 140 acres. During the summer, there is always grass to mow.
• Experience:
– Background check required for anyone 18 years or older
– Must have experience operating a riding lawn mower. Experience using a weed wacker is a plus.
• Age Requirement: Must have verbal permission from parent if under 18 years of age.
• Time commitment:
– As much time as you are able.
– We would prefer a set schedule, but we would also welcome “on call” volunteers for times when we might be short on mowers. Please contact the office to discuss your availability.

Summer Camp Faculty:
• Job Description:
– Cabin Parent: Male and female leaders are assigned to sleep in a cabin and supervise the campers in their cabin and to mentor them throughout the week. At least two adults are assigned to each cabin.
– Family Group Leader: Male and female leaders are assigned to a group of campers for the week, which we call family groups.
– Family group leaders, usually twice a day, must facilitate discussions about the main session lessons. We do our best to get questions from the speaker(s) for what they will be speaking about to help guide the discussion.
– Participation in some of the camp activities are by family groups. We ask our family group leaders to participate and encourage our students to participate.
• Experience:
– Background check required for anyone 18 years or older
– Willingness to work with children
• Age Requirement:
– Must be at least 16years old and at least 2 years older than the oldest camper.
• Time Commitment:
– Weeklong commitment for most of our camps (Sunday- Friday).
– First Chance camp is from Sunday evening to Wednesday afternoon.
– Kids Camp is one day from 7:30 am- 3:00 pm (June 17)
– Kids Kamp Overnighter is from 4pm – 3pm the following day (July 6-7)

Kitchen Help:
• Job Description:
– Help Kitchen manager with various food prep tasks.
– Clean cooking and food prep surfaces.
– Sweeping and mopping of floors
– Serving food.
– Washing dishes and putting them away.
• Experience:
– Background check required for anyone 18 years or older (unless you are serving one day only with your church group.)
– Willingness to help
• Age Requirement: If 14 or younger, must be accompanied by an adult.
• Time Commitment: Minimum of 2-3 hours around a mealtime, depending on one’s availability. Please contact the office to discuss your availability.

Day Camp Assistants:

• Job Description
– Males and females needed.
– Working with children between the ages of 5 and 14.
– Assisting lead counselors.
– Assisting younger children with changing clothes before and after pool time.
– Assisting younger children with crafts and other camp activities.
– Assisting younger children with application of sun block, and making sure they stay hydrated.
– Helping children to participate in small group Bible devotionals.
• Experience:
– Background check required for anyone 18 years or older
– Must have a willingness to work with children.
• Age Requirement:
– 15 years or older
– If younger than15, with a good reference, we may make an exception and allow you to work with the younger day campers.
• Time Commitment: Adventure Day Camp runs Monday-Friday from 6am-6pm.
– As much time as you are able.
– We would prefer a minimum of 4 hours per day.
– We would prefer a set schedule, but we would also welcome “on call” volunteers for days that we have higher camper attendance or days when we might be short on staff.

Gardening:
• Job Decription
– Weeding garden beds
– Weed wacking
– Spreading Mulch
– Watering flower beds
• Experience:
– Background check required for anyone 18 years or older
– Knowing how to recognize weeds vs. plants
– Knowing how to use a weed wacker
– General knowledge about gardening
• Age Requirement: If 14 or younger, must be accompanied by an adult.
• Time Commitment: As much time as you are able to give. Please contact the camp office to discuss your availability.

Skilled Labor:
Camp LRCA always has projects that come up requiring skilled labor. (Plumbers, Electricians, Carpenters, Dry-Wallers, Painters, etc.)
